Mid Year Market Update
We are halfway through 2011 which means the end of Financial Year is almost here - and what a year it has been! At Seldon Gill we have experienced an incredible amount of growth since last year - the result of an extremely buoyant recruitment market across marketing and business development in professional services.
From an employer perspective, it is an increasingly competitive market to secure top talent and we have noticed a marked increase in Australian firms sourcing candidates from overseas - primarily from the UK and Asia (providing work visas where necessary). Previously, firms had tended to do this only when candidates were already on the ground in Australia but many are now interviewing candidates who are currently overseas and in some instances also looking to be relocated. Seldon Gill has been partnering with these firms to source the global market, utilising our global alliances.
The lifestyle and opportunities, coupled with the strength of our dollar makes Australia an attractive market for candidates to move to. Whilst these candidates are not always familiar with the Australian market, they can offer a wealth of new ideas and initiatives to local firms.
Across all sectors, we have noticed an increase in bid roles over the past 12 months. From Bid/Tender Coordinators to Senior Bid Managers, firms are seeking bid specialists from a variety of industries including professional services, IT, financial services and construction. Proving competitive to secure candidates with this particular skill-set, some firms are realising they need to creatively incentivise bids specialists to retain high calibre talent.
We are also seeing continued growth in client development opportunities in both Australia and Asia. Now is a good time for BD Managers with some client program management experience to look at moving into dedicated client roles to take their careers to the next level. Also, particularly in law and accounting, we have seen a recent increase in Australia of opportunities for Executive level candidates to step up into Manager positions.
For high calibre candidates, the recruitment market is strong and promises to remain so in the new financial year offering challenging and rewarding opportunities.

Seldon Gill Executive Search
In response to a demand from our clients to provide executive level candidates across all management disciplines, we have launched an Executive Search division.
Seldon Gill Executive Search will manage campaigns for C-Suite and Director level roles in HR, Finance, IT and Business Services as well as continue to recruit in the Marketing and Business Development space.
The Executive Search team will be lead by Graham Seldon - Seldon Gill’s Managing Director, and joined by our newest member of the team, Jay Kostos. Jay is an experienced executive search professional who recently joined Seldon Gill after spending 16 years working in Singapore. She started her career in advertising, before moving into Asia-Pacific regional sales, business development and marketing roles, with some exposure to the Australian and SE Asia markets. More recently, she moved into the executive search space in Singapore and identified talent for the professional services sector which focused on permanent and C-level interim management appointments specifically across Forensic Accounting, Management Consulting, Accounting, Finance and IT.
