Click here to view the study Did you know?When working on marketing roles for clients we are often asked to find candidates who have experience in cross selling and practice profile raising campaigns. The firms are generally keen to raise brand awareness of service lines and practice areas that they have developed that may not be what they are “famous” for. It’s always very interesting to learn the full capabilities of our clients and we regularly leave briefings saying “I didn’t know they did that”! Turning the spotlight on ourselves we realized there were probably a few things about Seldon Gill that many of you didn’t know. We have changed a lot over the last 8 years and whilst we are “famous” for marketing recruitment in professional services; here are some other things we’d like you to know about what we do: Executive Recruitment - Business Services: We have always handled recruitment assignments for clients outside of the marketing area but in the past few years this area of our business has grown dramatically. In 2011 we launched a new brand, Seldon Gill Executive Search, which is headed up by Graham Seldon. So far this year we have handled search assignments for professional services firms in Operations, IT, HR, L&D and Sales for firms in Australia, Asia and New Zealand. Feedback for this new service has been extremely positive with many clients commenting that we are filling a much needed gap in the Executive Search space for professional services firms. In addition to senior management positions in professionals services, we recently launched a recruitment service for the Forensics Industry. Jay Kostos heads up the forensic recruitment division for Seldon Gill Executive Search. With her wealth of knowledge in this niche sector and an enviable network across the region, Jay has placed practitioners with leading professional services firms and major banks in the areas of forensic accounting and forensic technology. Engineering Sector: There is no doubt that the legal industry was, and continues to be, a major sector of specialisation for Seldon Gill, but did you know that since 2007 we have been building a solid client base in the Engineering sector. We are now proud to represent some of the region’s largest and most successful engineering firms and have placed whole marketing teams for some of them as well as specialist roles in Bid Management and Communications. The engineering sector continues to flourish and we plan to grow with it. International: Yes, we are 100% Australian owned and our 2 offices are in Sydney and Melbourne, but did you know that our 3rd busiest city for work is HK? Or that we are the ‘recruiter of choice’ for many NZ firms. Of course we regularly work in Brisbane, sometimes Canberra and Perth, but also Dubai, Singapore and Tokyo. Executive Coaching: We have always tried to differentiate ourselves in the market by being a career service, not just a placement agency. This year Graham Seldon successfully completed a Professional Development Certificate in Executive Coaching from the Institute of Coaching & Consulting Psychology. Seldon Gill Hires New ConsultantsIn response to an increasing workload from clients across Australia, New Zealand and Asia, we have hired 2 new Consultants! Maria Niedzwiecka joins the Sydney office with extensive knowledge of the professional services industry, particularly in the accounting sector. Prior to joining Maria worked in the financial services practice at KPMG where she was responsible for business growth for the audit division. She managed key accounts and worked with Partners to develop and implement initiatives for business growth including actions around targeting, proposals, relationship plans, client care, product solutions and thought leadership. The Australian market is experiencing a period of growth with several firms developing new practice areas in this space and Jay has seen a trend in Asia based firms targeting specialists in Australia. “Generally our clients are seeking candidates with technology and forensic accounting backgrounds who have the ability to implement effective fraud investigation and data analysis strategies”. Just One Friend : Seldon Gill Ad CampaignSeldon Gill launches its latest advertising campaign entitled Just One Friend which is a “tongue in cheek” response to the proliferation of social networking sites and their usefulness during the recruitment process. Listing the extensive choice of social media applications now available to professionals, Seldon Gill makes the point that utilizing all the sites, updating profiles and responding to invitations to become connected is becoming a full time job. Managing Director Graham Seldon says; “There is absolutely no doubt that applications such as LinkedIn etc. are proving to be very useful in developing and maintaining professional networks; however the popularity of such applications is also becoming somewhat of a burden to busy people. We are finding more than ever that candidates would prefer for us to tell them in one call or email what is happening in the market, rather than them spend hours emailing applications to various networking sites. There is also a sense that candidates still do not trust the confidentiality of such sites and would prefer to let us manage their career search for them in a discreet and targeted fashion”. For a preview of the ad click here Mid Year Market UpdateWe are halfway through 2011 which means the end of Financial Year is almost here - and what a year it has been! At Seldon Gill we have experienced an incredible amount of growth since last year - the result of an extremely buoyant recruitment market across marketing and business development in professional services. From an employer perspective, it is an increasingly competitive market to secure top talent and we have noticed a marked increase in Australian firms sourcing candidates from overseas - primarily from the UK and Asia (providing work visas where necessary). Previously, firms had tended to do this only when candidates were already on the ground in Australia but many are now interviewing candidates who are currently overseas and in some instances also looking to be relocated. Seldon Gill has been partnering with these firms to source the global market, utilising our global alliances. The lifestyle and opportunities, coupled with the strength of our dollar makes Australia an attractive market for candidates to move to. Whilst these candidates are not always familiar with the Australian market, they can offer a wealth of new ideas and initiatives to local firms. Across all sectors, we have noticed an increase in bid roles over the past 12 months. From Bid/Tender Coordinators to Senior Bid Managers, firms are seeking bid specialists from a variety of industries including professional services, IT, financial services and construction. Proving competitive to secure candidates with this particular skill-set, some firms are realising they need to creatively incentivise bids specialists to retain high calibre talent. We are also seeing continued growth in client development opportunities in both Australia and Asia. Now is a good time for BD Managers with some client program management experience to look at moving into dedicated client roles to take their careers to the next level. Also, particularly in law and accounting, we have seen a recent increase in Australia of opportunities for Executive level candidates to step up into Manager positions.
