How much are you worth? A Seldon Gill Salary Survey

We are nearing that time of year when most of our clients begin reviewing salary bands and most of our candidates are expecting to hear if their salary review will be positive.  There is no doubt that the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) has had a huge impact on this process; and with many firms having made significant cuts to their budgets, salaries are often the first thing to be clawed back.  But is true for all?

Our anecdotal feedback from the market is that firms are looking to reward those members of staff who stayed loyal during the GFC and who demonstrated flexibility (either by reducing their hours or taking extended leave etc).  As the market picks up and business returns to the frenetic pace of 2008, we are seeing bonuses return and provision for salary increases are back in the budget.

Like the property market though, demand for candidates differs from skill to skill and for areas that are highly sought after.  For instance the BD Manager with 5 years plus experience looking at Sydney or Melbourne is the real estate equivalent of a 2 bedroom apartment in a boutique block with potential room for improvements; in other words,  hard to find and happy to renovate if necessary.  Similarly the Senior Level BD Director with 10+ years can be viewed like the Toorak Mansion, expensive, lots to choose from and needs to be ready to move into, no improvements required!

We are keen to advise the market as accurately as possible and therefore are looking for people to take part in a confidential salary survey (which will be in the form of a short online questionnaire).  The results will be published in the April edition of Big Wednesday – just in time for review period.
